Let’s Talk About the Clippers’ Rebrand
The Los Angeles Clippers have unveiled their city editions for the 2026-2027 NBA season. The “coast blue” jerseys are a throwback to the 2021-2022 NBA season.
The funny thing about these jerseys is that during the 2021-2022 NBA season, Kawhi Leonard ended up missing the entire season due to an injury. With the jerseys making a return, they will once again miss Kawhi as he is expected to be traded prior to ever being able to play in these.
These jerseys follow the same template as the modern Clippers jerseys. A solid color with cursive letters, the only special thing about these jerseys as compared to today’s jerseys is the color.
The Clippers have done a tremendous job with this rebrand. Leaning into navy as the team’s primary blue color as well as bringing back the red color and cursive letter is a huge upgrade. The Clippers went nearly a decade without a red jersey and the last one they wore had the awful alternate logo with the jersey number directly next to it.
Speaking of the logo, the Clippers also upgraded big time in that department. The current logo follows a circular pattern that all teams are following, but the navy blue and leaning back into the ship is a great display of character in the new logo. The merchandise with the old logo was also a tough purchase. As big of a Clippers fan that I am, I found it hard to find good merch to buy as a lot of it looked ugly. The rebrand has allowed me to have a wide variety of options now as all items from shirts to jerseys to accessories all have a cool look to it.
The rebrand also came at the start of a new arena. The more beautiful arena in the entire NBA belongs to the Los Angeles Clippers. I have been to the Intuit Dome six times so far and I am in awe every single time I step foot in the arena. Even when I am miles away and see the arena lit up at night during my drive to Inglewood, I am amazed at this very futuristic, UFO-like architecture.
The Clippers have nailed all aspects of their rebrand and I am once again proud to be wearing repping the merch.
